Home Destroyed In Fire

Aug. 28, 2015

A blaze destroyed a home after someone left burning papers in a basement woodstove.

Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies and Suttons Bay/Bingham firefighters were called to a house fire at 6:26pm Wednesday. When they arrived at 4828 South Center Highway the house was completely engulfed in flames.

The owner told investigators that the house was under demolition and he was burning papers in the woodstove. He left to do some work in a barn and when he emerged the house was on fire. The house was destroyed but no one was injured.
