By Beth Milligan | Jan. 22, 2026

A 19-year-old Interlochen resident, Keegan Vanhorne, has been arrested for arson after allegedly setting fire to a Green Lake Township home.

Michigan State Police troopers responded to the house fire on January 19 at 7pm. Firefighters from the surrounding area "responded to the scene and worked in subzero temperatures and blowing snow to extinguish the fire," according to the MSP.

An initial investigation indicated Vanhorne allegedly started the fire inside the home. Vanhorne and his dog were outside the residence when emergency personnel arrived. There were no reports of injuries or damage to adjacent properties.

Vanhorne was arrested for arson and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail. He was arraigned in 86th District Court on January 21 on one count of second-degree arson. His next court appearance is on February 3 at 2pm.

Troopers were assisted by the Green Lake Township Fire Department, Blair Township Fire Department, Long Lake Township Fire Department, Elmwood Township Fire Department, Almira Township Fire Department, Inland Township Fire Department, Buckley Fire Department, and Grand Traverse Metro Department.
