Leelanau Prosecutor To Handle Maxbauer Case

July 20, 2016

Leelanau Prosecutor Joseph Hubbell will take over the investigation and prosecution of Grand Traverse County Commission Chair Christine Maxbauer.

Maxbauer was arrested earlier this month for suspected drunk driving in downtown Traverse City.

Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney had sought an outside special prosecutor because he serves as counsel for county commissioners. His request was granted by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.

Said Cooney, “The purpose of requesting a special prosecutor in this matter is to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. I am thankful to the Leelanau County Prosecuting Attorney for accepting the appointment, and I am confident that the case will be handled fairly and professionally by that office.”
