Local Race Director Leaves Posts
Oct. 31, 2013
Lisa Taylor, who has served as race director for two big northern Michigan recreational events – the National Cherry Festival's Festival of Races and the North American Vasa – for the past five years has resigned from both posts. She has stepped down to focus on her own event: the Farmland 5K European Style XC Challenge.
The second annual event will be held December 7. The off-road 3.1-mile footrace follows pathways (possibly covered with snow!) surrounding the 150 acres of centennial farm property owned by local farmer Lewis Rasho, who has been maintaining the dedicated course southeast of Traverse City since 2001. The December event date was chosen to offer a "naturally tough, true northern Michigan" event.
Both the National Cherry Festival and the Vasa are expected to make announcements about Taylor's replacements soon.
