By Beth Milligan | Nov. 23, 2025

A 51-year-old Benzie County man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to abduct a woman at the Meijer gas station in Traverse City.

Authorities were dispatched to Meijer Sunday morning at 8:30am in response to an attempted kidnapping in the gas station parking lot. The suspect fled the scene, with authorities issuing a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) alert for his vehicle. Troopers from the Michigan State Police and deputies from the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and began a canvas looking for the vehicle.

At approximately 10:05am, a deputy located the vehicle south of town near Chums Corners. A traffic stop was conducted, and the male subject was taken into custody and later lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail.

Along with thanking other responding agencies, the Michigan State Police also thanked "the citizens on scene for their help during this incident." The investigation is ongoing, according to authorities.
