By Beth Milligan | Dec. 29, 2025

A 26-year-old White Cloud man is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing into a snowbank and then being discovered by authorities sleeping behind the wheel with a gun in his pocket.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) were in Traverse City limits to complete a booking process for a different case and were driving back to their post when they saw a vehicle in a snowbank on Boardman Avenue near State Street.

Approaching the running vehicle, "troopers found the driver asleep and initially unresponsive," according to a MSP release. "Troopers entered the vehicle and observed a handgun inside the driver’s pocket. They removed the handgun and attempted to wake the driver. As the driver awoke, he allegedly became assaultive toward law enforcement." The man was arrested and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Jacob Miller of White Cloud. Miller was arraigned December 19 in 86th District Court on the following charges:

> Count One: Weapons Offense – Carry Concealed Weapon
> Count Two: Weapons Offense- Possession by Felon
> Count Three: Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)
> Count Four: Police Officer – Assault/Resist/Obstruct
> Count Five: Weapons Offense – Felony Firearm

Miller was given a $25,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 8 at 11am. Troopers were assisted by the Traverse City Police Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.
