Man Lights Fire At Community Mental Health

Oct. 25, 2016

A Traverse City police officer spotted a man stuffing crumpled up pieces of paper under the door of Community Mental Health on Hall Street and lighting them on fire.

When the officer approached at 4:30am Monday, the 45-year-old stomped out the small fire and said he was just bored. The officer determined that the man was of diminished mental capacity, Chief Jeff O’Brien says.

The building was not in danger of catching fire, and a report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office. The man was taken home. O’Brien says authorities will figure out how to get the man some help.
