More Charges In Long Lake Shooting
Nov. 10, 2016
A 23-year-old woman connected to a Long Lake shooting on October 14 is now facing additional charges in the case.
Ashley Peretiako and her husband, 30-year-old David Peretiatko, were shot by Ashley's father James Barron in a self-defense shooting last month. The Peretiakos were believed to be conspiring to kidnap back their two young children, of whom the Barrons had legal custody, and to kill the older couple in the process. When Barron was confronted by the couple in his Jacks Trail residence, he shot and killed David Peretiatko and shot and injured his daughter. No charges have been filed against Barron, who authorities say was acting in lawful self-defense of himself and others.
Ashley was initially charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and possessing a firearm when committing a felony. Prosecutors authorized additional charges against the woman this week, including conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and first-degree home invasion. The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to life in prison. Ashley is currently lodged at Grand Traverse County Jail on a $1 million dollar bond awaiting trial.
