
Multiple Drunk Driving Arrests In Leelanau County

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office made several arrests for drunk driving over the weekend.
On Saturday at 4am, a deputy observed a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling 78mph on M-72 near Bugai Road in Elwood Township. A traffic stop was made and the driver identified as a 19-year-old man from Traverse City. In speaking to the driver, who thought he was going 85mph, the deputy could smell alcohol on the man. After further investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of operating a vehicle intoxicated. He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail.
On Saturday at 7:57pm, a deputy stopped a 2009 Pontiac for traveling 70mph on M-72 near Harry's Road in Elmwood Township. The driver was a 31-year-old Traverse City woman. She admitted to consuming alcohol at an establishment in Glen Arbor before heading home. After an investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of operating a vehicle intoxicated. She was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail on a high B.A.C. charge.
Later Saturday night at 10:47pm, a deputy stopped a 2008 Nissan on South West Bay Shore Drive near San Remo Boulevard in Elmwood Township. The deputy had observed the Nissan weaving over the center line on four different occasions. The driver was identified as a 32-year-old Ann Arbor man. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol before driving. After an investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of operating a vehicle intoxicated. He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail.
Finally, on Sunday 2:25am, a deputy observed a 2009 Subaru heading north on South West Bay Shore Drive in Greilickville. The Subaru was traveling at 55mph in a 40mph zone and was weaving across the roadway. A traffic stop was made and the driver identified as a 25-year-old Lake Leelanau man. The deputy spoke to the driver and smelled a strong odor of intoxicants. After an investigation, the driver was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle intoxicated. He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail on a high B.A.C. charge, with a blood alcohol test of .20 percent.
