New Program Offers Local Only Discounts
Nov. 22, 2013
A new program in northern Michigan is setting out to give local residents a chance to be vacationers in their own backyard. A Tourist in My Own Town, the creation of TC resident Jaffe Davis, is a membership program offering reduced hotel room rates and 25 percent off discounts at area restaurants every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from October through May. The program is open exclusively to residents of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie and Antrim counties (residency is verified by mailing address before membership is approved.)
For $60, residents can receive a membership card that grants discounts on designated nights at such establishments as The Towne Plaza, Phil's on Front, 9 Bean Rows, The Workshop Brew Pub, Martha's Leelanau Table, Mackinac Brewing Company and The Leland Lodge. More hotels and restaurants are being enrolled in the program on an ongoing basis.
"Our businesses work diligently to cater to the tourist," the company states on its website. "Now we have asked them to cater to you, the local resident, at a discount."
