Olympic Marathoner Dakotah Popehn Booked For Live Traverse City Event

By Craig Manning | Jan. 7, 2025

An Olympian is on her way to Traverse City.

Dakotah Popehn, an elite distance runner who represented the United States at last year’s Summer Olympics in Paris, will be in northern Michigan this Memorial Day weekend as part of the Traverse City Track Club’s Bayshore Marathon festivities. Popehn shared on her Instagram account Monday that she will be the guest for the Track Club’s annual live podcast recording.

“I’m incredibly honored to announce I’ll be at the Bayshore Marathon this May,” Popehn wrote in her post. “I’ll be joining the talented @lindseyhein626 for a live podcast, and you might see me at the finish line! Who else will I see in Traverse City?”

For the past several years, the Track Club has brought popular running podcasts to northern Michigan as part of Bayshore weekend. In 2023, podcast host Ali Feller – of the podcast Ali on the Run – interviewed 2018 USA Marathon Championship winner Emma Bates in a live episode recorded at the City Opera House. Then, last year, Lindsey Hein brought her podcast, I’ll Have Another, to Traverse City and sat down with Des Linden, 2018 Boston Marathon champion.

This year, Hein will be back for another live recording of I’ll Have Another, scheduled for 3pm on Friday, May 23 at the City Opera House. Hein’s guest this time, Popehn, was the top American woman in the marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing 12th overall with a time of 2:26:44. A Minnesota native, Popehn is also a two-time champion of the prestigious Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, and has landed top 20 finishes in the three world marathon majors on U.S. soil: the Boston Marathon, the Chicago Marathon, and the New York City Marathon.

Tickets for the podcast recording are $40 and can be purchased here.
