Online Renewal Now Offered For CPLs

By Beth Milligan | Dec. 12, 2018

Effective this week, Michigan residents who have a concealed pistol license (CPL) can now renew their licenses online.

According to the Michigan State Police, the online renewal process requires a personal identification number (PIN). If a CPL holder’s renewal notification letter does not contain a PIN, he or she can request a new letter directly from the county clerk that issued the CPL.

In addition to online renewal, CPL holders can also renew their licenses in person at their county clerk’s office, or by mail with a completed application and payment. The application and instructions for renewing by mail are available online here.

First-time CPL applicants must still apply in-person at their county clerk’s office. Once issued, a CPL is valid for up to five years. There are 644,677 active CPLs across the state of Michigan.
