Park Street Bridge Reopened

By Beth Milligan | Sept. 2, 2021

The Park Street bridge reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic Thursday in downtown Traverse City after being closed for three months for a reconstruction project.

Work on the bridge over the summer included the removal of the existing bridge deck, sidewalk, and railings; painting the existing steel beams; constructing a new bridge deck, sidewalk, and railings; and bridge approach street work. The sidewalk width has been increased over the bridge from six feet, four-and-a-half inches to nine-and-a-half feet. Pedestrian-scale lighting and traditional streetscaping is also included in the project.

According to the City of Traverse City, short-term closures are anticipated in the near future on the bridge to complete a handful of minor items. Construction is still ongoing on the South Cass Street and East Eighth Street bridges downtown; those bridges are expected to be complete in November.
