Pedestrian Killed Trying to Cross US-31

A 47-year-old Lewiston man died early Sunday after trying to cross US-31 on foot between Three and Four Mile roads and getting struck by a car.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office, Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, and East Bay Fire and EMS responded to the crash in East Bay Township just after midnight. According to the Sheriff's Office, the Lewiston man was attempting to walk across US-31 and was hit by an eastbound vehicle operated by a 33-year-old Traverse City man. The Lewiston man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Michigan State Police and Grand Traverse County Road Commission assisted at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
