Pit Spitters To Host Virtual Opening Day Today

By Beth Milligan | May 28, 2020

The Traverse City Pit Spitters will hold a virtual Opening Day celebration today (Thursday) in lieu of the postponed home opener that would have taken place tonight at Turtle Creek Stadium.

The Pit Spitters will serve a drive-thru baseball lunch from 11am to 1pm at Turtle Creek Stadium. The $7 lunch includes a stadium hot dog, a bag of Great Lakes Chips, a cookie, and a Pepsi product. For an additional $5, fans can purchase a lunch for hospital staff at Munson Medical Center, which will be delivered by the Pit Spitters the week of June 1. Fans can also pre-order Pit Spitters merchandise for pickup online. Through the end of May, half of all merchandise proceeds will be donated to the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.

Fans can then tune into the Pit Spitters Facebook page at 7pm for the Virtual Opening Day celebration, which will feature:

> A virtual ring ceremony with members of the 2019 team
> Highlights from the 2019 championship game and the 2019 season
> A shortened version of the 2019 championship game
> Videos and messages from our staff
> Chances to win one of five replica championship rings, courtesy of 4Front Credit Union
> A virtual fireworks display presented by Pepsi
> A post-game Bud Light concert with the TC Knuckleheads

“Coming off of our storybook inaugural season, we’re excited about opening Turtle Creek Stadium to fans and players whenever our traditional Opening Day will be,” says Pit Spitters Director of Sales Sam Connell. “Even though that won’t be May 28, we’re excited to provide a glimpse of baseball and a return to normalcy that we’re all working to achieve.”

The Pit Spitters are also asking fans to submit their photos from last season here. Photos uploaded may be used during the virtual Opening Day celebration.
