Polestar, Community Partners To Host Queer Prom For Students

By Beth Milligan | March 30, 2018

Polestar LGBT+ Community Center, LGBTeens Up North, and area gay-straight alliances will host the second annual Queer Prom on Saturday, April 7 from 7pm to 11pm at Streeter’s Ground Zero.

The event is offered to provide area LGBT+ high school students and their allies "the opportunity to dance, socialize, express their true selves, and have fun without fear of hostility or intolerance," according to Polestar. "It also provides LGBT+ students the chance to dress based on their preferred gender expression, or bring their same-sex dates, without having to navigate a school’s sometimes restrictive and complicated policies."

The Queer Prom will be a fully chaperoned event and is open to LGBT+ high school students and their allies regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression/identity, or romantic attraction. Prom attendees must be between the age of 14 and 18 and reside in Northwest Lower Michigan.

Early bird tickets prices are $15; prices go up to $20 on April 1. Tickets will also be available at the door for $20. Scholarships are available for students unable to pay the ticket price. Event and ticket information is available online here. All participating students will be required to provide a form of photo ID for entry (state or school). Early registration is recommended, as a limited number of tickets are available.
