Police Stay Busy Over St. Pat’s Weekend

By Patrick Sullivan | March 19, 2019

Too much drinking by revelers made St. Patrick’s Day and the previous day eventful ones for Traverse City police officers.

Officers investigated eight cases of disorderly conduct and trespassing and several assaults. Those numbers don’t include calls from Friday, which was the official day of Traverse City’s pub walk.

Despite all of the misbehavior reported, TCPD Chief Jeff O’Brien says there was only one arrest. He says it was a pretty typical amount of activity for a St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Highlights include:

At just before 11pm Saturday, police were called after a group of revelers were refused entrance to Kilkenny’s on West Front Street because they were too intoxicated. The group became unruly and would not leave. During some scuffling, a woman was knocked down and hit her head.

While an officer was assisting an injured person outside of Kilkenny’s at 11:21pm, a woman hit the officer from behind and then resisted arrest. The 21-year-old Traverse City woman was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Just after 2am Sunday at Side Traxx on Franklin Street, staff called police for help to remove a man from the property for trespassing. Staff told officers that the man’s behavior was so bad they intended to ban him for life from the bar.

At 3:48am Monday, officers were called to the U.S. Post Office on Union Street where five men were hanging out in the lobby. The men were drunk, smoking, and arguing. The men were told to leave the property.
