Sail Inn Owner Arrested, Bar Investigated
March 29, 2016
A Traverse City bar owner was jailed after his girlfriend told police he assaulted her and he refused to get up as police tried to arrest him.
The 44-year-old man faces charges of domestic violence and resisting and obstructing police after officers were called to the Sail Inn at 3:13am Sunday.
An anonymous person called police to report a fight at the bar. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect allegedly pulled his girlfriend’s hair and grabbed cash from inside her shirt, Traverse City Police Chief Jeff O’Brien says. The 36-year-old woman was also a waitress at the bar.
O’Brien says it was unclear what people were doing at the bar at that time of morning – the bar should have been closed and people should not have been hanging out. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission is expected to investigate.
The owner recently faced a felony charge for third-offense domestic violence, a charge that was dismissed by prosecutors on March 16.
