Frozen Strawberries Recalled Locally Due To Hepatitis A Scare
Nov. 7, 2016
Frozen strawberries are being recalled from several locations in northern Michigan due to possible exposure to Hepatitis A.
The Grand Traverse County Health Department announced this weekend that frozen strawberries from the International Company for Agricultural Products and Processing were being recalled nationally. The fruit products originated in Egypt and were distributed to food service establishments nationwide, though they were not sold to individual consumer retail/grocery stores.
The recall affected the following northern Michigan locations. If you consumed any frozen strawberry products from any of the below businesses within the last two weeks, you are asked to immediately call 231-995-6800. Vaccination within a 14-day time period can prevent illness from contaminated food items.
Locations affected by frozen strawberry recall:
> Grand Traverse County: Strawberry waffle topping from Best Western Plus Four Seasons on Munson Avenue in Traverse City
> Benzie, Leelanau Counties: Strawberry smoothies from The Ursa Major Bistro (formerly the Blue Caribou Cafe) on Benzie Boulevard in Beulah
> Otsego, Charlevoix, Emmet Counties: Red Bull smoothies, banana berry smoothies, or strawberry shortcake smoothies from Bigby Coffee on Main Street in Gaylord; strawberry daquiris from Barrel Back restaurant on M-75 in Walloon Lake; strawberry crepes and/or The Dutch Treat from The Original Pancake House on Main Street in Bay Harbor.
