Support Molly And Sonya In Kingsley
Oct. 8, 2016
Kingsley High School’s ninth annual Cancer Awareness Game, Oct. 21 against Sault Ste. Marie, will benefit two women with ties to the school – and each other. Molly Dunham and Sonya Sias have been best friends since age 12. They met playing against each other in recreation league softball in elementary school. Throughout the years, they stayed close through moves downstate, college, and marriage (they even share the same anniversary date). Both ended up with ties to Kingsley Area Schools: Dunham is a teacher and Sias is the wife of a teacher, and both have children attending Kingsley.
In February of this year, they were diagnosed with breast cancer 18 days apart. They’ve undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Now they will share the results from this fundraiser, a tradition Kingsley head football coach Jason Leonard began when he took the post. The money from gate receipts and the team’s portion of the concession stand proceeds, as well as t-shirt sales, will be donated to the two women at a presentation the end of October. Leonard said last year’s event, for an elementary student who was diagnosed with leukemia, totaled approximately $3,500. For more information or to donate, contact Leonard at Kingsley High School, 263-5362.
