TC Arts Commission Seeking Artists For Pitch Night

By Beth Milligan | Jan. 23, 2020

The Traverse City Arts Commission is seeking local artists from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau counties to participate in an upcoming Pitch Night event, with a chance to win funding to mount a public art installation in downtown Traverse City.

Artists are invited to submit entries for a two-dimensional or three-dimensional art installation online here through February 18. Once the application process closes, the Arts Commission’s Art Selection Panel will select five artists to present their ideas at a public Pitch Night event on Thursday, March 5 at The Workshop Brewing Company. Each of the five selected artists will have up to five minutes to "pitch" their idea with five slides. The panel of judges and a live audience will have the opportunity to ask questions of the artists following the presentations. The audience will then participate in rounds of live voting to award an artist $1,000 to realize their proposal. The public art project will be displayed in the southwest quadrant of Lot B (home to the downtown farmers market) for a minimum of one month. Installation is anticipated for April 2020.

"Pitch Night is a great opportunity for the Arts Commission to engage with the public and build relationships with local artists," says Colleen Paveglio, Arts Commission staff and DDA marketing & communications director. "We are looking forward to this event bringing more public art to Traverse City."
