TC Composer Behind New Horror Film Score to Appear at AMC Screening Thursday

By Beth Milligan | Oct. 1, 2025

The highly anticipated new horror film Good Boy - which racked up over a million views for its YouTube trailer in four days thanks to its unique premise of being told entirely from a dog's perspective - has a notable Traverse City connection. NMC Audio Technology Coordinator Sam Boase-Miller composed the film's score and will appear at a 7pm screening of the film Thursday (October 1) at AMC for an audience Q&A.

Good Boy, a haunted house story seen through a canine's eyes, was a breakout hit at South by Southwest this year. The films stars Indy, the real-life dog of writer-director Ben Leonberg. Distributor IFC initially only planned to show the film in limited release, but the viral reaction to its trailer prompted the company to change tactics and expand the film to a wide release.

Boase-Miller, an award-winning teacher at NMC and graduate of Interlochen Center for the Arts, used instruments including the cello and an experimental celloscillator to compose the film's score.
