A 49-year-old Traverse City man was arrested Thursday for distributing sex toys to a 17-year-old teenage girl.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, the man gave a gift bag to the girl at an after-hours event being held at Traverse City West Senior High School on April 21. The girl did not know the man. When the student opened the bag a short time later, she found several sexual-related items, as well as notes signed by a female name.

A parent of the girl contacted authorities. Deputies met with school district staff and reviewed surveillance footage, at which time staff were able to identify the man. Deputies were able to confirm the suspect's identity and found the female name he signed to the notes was fictitious. The investigation was sent to the Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, which authorized an arrest warrant for the man.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested Thursday morning on a charge of distributing sexually explicit material to a minor.
