TC Man Arrested On Weapons Charges After Found With Numerous Firearms, Body Armor, Ammunition

A 28-year-old Traverse City man is facing felony firearms and concealed weapons charges after he was pulled over in a traffic stop Wednesday and found with multiple loaded guns, "ghost gun" parts, body armor, and several thousand rounds of ammunition. The man was interviewed for stalking recently and is facing a renewal request for a personal protection order against him.
A Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputy pulled Morgan Young over at 12:31am Wednesday after clocking Young going 60mph in a 45mph zone. The vehicle had expired registration and no insurance. While being interviewed, Young disclosed that he had uncased, loaded firearms inside his vehicle. While searching the vehicle, deputies located a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a loaded 9mm pistol, and a .223 caliber rifle. Deputies also located firearms parts for assembling "ghost guns" (weapons assembled from kits that don't have serial numbers), several thousand rounds of ammunition, and body armor.
Young was arrested for felony firearms violations and concealed weapons violations. On Thursday, Young was arraigned on three counts of carrying concealed weapons. As part of the conditions of his arraignment, Young must wear a GPS tether, can't leave his house except for work or court/medical/counseling appointments, can't possess weapons/weapons components/ammunition, can't have intimidating or threatening contact with anyone, and must remain under pretrial supervision. Police were also granted the right to search his home and confiscate any weapons for safekeeping. Sheriff's Office deputies searched Young’s Traverse City home this week and seized several more firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition.
This case is still under investigation, with charges under review by the Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. A probable cause conference is scheduled for April 29, and a preliminary exam scheduled for May 5.
