TCAPS Opens Public Voting On Name Of New Central Athletic Facility

By Beth Milligan | April 21, 2021

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) is seeking community input to help select the name of the new Central High School athletic facility.

The Central High School Student Senate and other student representatives developed an initial list of names, which Central High School students and staff then voted on, narrowing the list to their top two choices: Trojan Fields (TF) and Trojan Athletic Complex (TAC). The community now has the opportunity to help select the final name through a public voting process that will be open from Wednesday, April 21 through Sunday, April 25.

The soon-to-be-completed facility and fields will be home to the Trojan girls’ and boys’ soccer, softball, and baseball teams. It is located near the airport and is currently unofficially referred to as the “Coast Guard” fields. The field upgrades are part of a comprehensive capital bond that was passed by the community in 2018. The top name choice will be presented to the TCAPS board at their meeting Monday for final review and approval.

“We are excited as a school community to have an upgraded facility on the way and fields to support our student-athletes. We are also proud to be part of the tradition of excellence this community helps build for its students,” says Central High School Principal Jessie Houghton. “We are looking forward to seeing the top name choice from public voting and think this is a great way to honor the input of our school and students, while allowing our community to participate as well.”
