Traverse City Gets Its Own 'Beer Olympics'

By Craig Manning | May 22, 2024

The actual Olympic Games are set to take place this summer in Paris, France, with the opening ceremonies scheduled for Friday, July 26. The “Beer Olympics,” meanwhile, will be happening right here in Traverse City on Sunday, June 2.

Hosted by Right Brain Brewery and announced via press release on Tuesday afternoon, the first annual Right Brain Beer Olympics invites teams of four to compete “in a series of relay-style, beer-inspired events.” Those events are as follows:

1. Keg Carry: One team member will be tasked with carrying an empty beer keg from Cass Road and into the Right Brain brewhouse.

2. Sample Tray Carry: Next up, a team member will test their bartending skills by carrying a sample tray of beer through a “magical, whirly-swirly, whiskey barrel obstacle course.” Each beer cup on the tray will be filled to the brim.

3. Flip Cup: “Come on, you know you’ve done it,” teases the Right Brain press release. “Bring your cup to the edge of the table and flip it until it lands face down on the table.”

4. Keg Carry, round 2: “Bring the keg back to its home, then hightail it to the finish,” the press release states.

5. Finish: The final task of the Beer Olympics is to “finish your beer as fast as you can, then pass the ‘baton’ to your teammate.”

Each member of the winning team will receive a Right Brain Brewery “goody bag,” packed with hats, stickers, posters, and other merch.

Sign-ups for the Right Brain Beer Olympics will be open through June 1, with a $25 per person fee covering the registration and a Beer Olympics t-shirt. Teams can sign up together, or individuals can register on their own and be put into teams by the Right Brain staff.

Check-in for the Beer Olympics is set to start at 11am on June 2 at Right Brain, which is located at 225 East 16th Street.
