Two Arrested After Fife Lake Township Crash

By Beth Milligan | Feb. 21, 2025

A 52-year-old White Cloud man and a 41-year-old Hersey woman were arrested after the man - who was in possession of drugs and weapons and had multiple felony warrants - fled the scene of a car accident and the woman obstructed the investigation.

Authorities were dispatched Thursday at 8:30pm to a two-car crash on US-131 near M-113 in Fife Lake Township, according to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office. It was reported that a male driver from White Cloud, who was at fault, had fled the scene carrying a backpack. Deputies spoke with the driver who wasn't at fault, a 41-year-old Cadillac man. He was not injured in the accident. The other vehicle was occupied by the Hersey woman, who was a passenger in the car.

Deputies established a perimeter and used a thermal-imaging drone to locate the fleeing driver in the woods. Once he was found and taken into custody, authorities established he had multiple felony warrants from other jurisdictions for weapons, aggravated assault, and drug offenses. Deputies used a K-9, Thor, to search for the missing backpack. The dog found the backpack, which contained suspected meth and two handguns.

The male suspect was arrested and lodged in jail for offenses including felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to deliver, and leaving the scene of an accident. The woman was arrested for obstructing the investigation.
