By Beth Milligan | Sept. 15, 2023

Two Grand Traverse County residents were arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop early Friday morning.

Michigan State Police officers stopped a car on South Garfield Road near East River Road in Paradise Township at 1:40am Friday for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old Kingsley man, did not have a valid driver’s license. During the traffic stop, the driver was found to be in possession of a large, double-edged fixed-blade knife. He was placed under arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, troopers located a digital scale, a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue, and a small clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine. The passenger, a 40-year-old Traverse City woman, was also placed under arrest.

Both suspects were lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail pending arraignment. The man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon. He is also on parole, and his parole officer was notified of the arrest. The woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.
