Yarrow Brown Becomes ED at Generations Ahead; Housing North Looks for New Leader
By Beth Milligan | Jan. 8, 2026
After five years at Housing North, Yarrow Brown has left the nonprofit to become the new executive director of Generations Ahead. Housing North has launched a search for its next leader.
Housing North Board President Josh Mills thanked Brown in an email announcing the news Thursday for her "leadership, vision, and achievements in advancing housing solutions across Northwest Michigan. During her tenure, Housing North’s team grew, and we expanded our Housing Ready Program technical assistance across all ten counties. We launched the Housing Zoning Atlas for Northwest Michigan, became the Regional Housing Partnership Lead for Region D and the Statewide Housing Action Plan, among other notable achievements, including new housing units and development at the local level. Her impact on our organization and the communities we serve will be felt for years to come, and we thank her sincerely for her contributions."
Housing North is now searching for its new executive director, which Mills called an "exciting opportunity to lead our mission-driven organization at a pivotal moment, building on a strong foundation and supporting collaborative, community-led action throughout the region." Mills said the board is "committed to a smooth and thoughtful transition, and our programs will continue moving forward without disruption." Applications are being accepted through January 20.
Meanwhile, Brown is set to start in her new role as executive director of Generations Ahead on February 2. Yarrow succeeds Marjie Rich, "whose eight years of extraordinary leadership built a strong foundation supporting teen parents and their children across our region," according to a Facebook announcement from Generations Ahead. The organization said Brown's work "reflects a deep commitment to community-centered leadership, collaboration, and systems change—values that align beautifully with our mission." Generations Ahead said it was "excited to build on our programs that uplift teen parents across our five-county region."
Brown called Generations Ahead's mission "deeply meaningful work," adding she's "grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the staff, board, and community partners to support families and create lasting, positive impact.”
