Authorities Search For Driver Who Fled Into Woods

May 24, 2016

Police are looking for a 20-year-old Grawn man who ran off into the woods rather than submit to a traffic stop.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a car traveling without headlights on South Airport Road near the Grand Traverse Mall and attempted to stop it May 19 at 10:54pm, says Capt. Christopher Clark.

The car sped off and stopped behind the nearby Aldi store. The driver fled on foot into the Miller Creek Nature Reserve.

A 17-year-old passenger identified the driver to deputies, who also learned the car had been taken without permission from the Grawn girl’s 43-year-old mother.

The driver was wanted for unlawfully driving away an automobile, fleeing and eluding, and driving while license suspended.
