Cherry Capital Airport Nominated For USA Today 10Best Award

By Craig Manning | Sept. 9, 2025

Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) is in the running for the title of “Best Resort Airport” in the United States, thanks to USA Today and its 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The airport announced on Monday that USA Today’s editors – along with “a panel of travel industry experts” – had put TVC up for the award. Now, it’s in the hands of readers to vote for their favorite airport and decide if TVC tops the list.

“Getting up to Northern Michigan's vacationland is simple when the Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) is your airport of choice,” reads the description of TVC on the 10Best vote page. “It serves many of the famed golf courses, beaches, lakes, and islands nearby, along Lake Michigan and inland as well. With 20 nonstop flights from bigger cities across the U.S. on carriers including Allegiant, American, Delta, and JetBlue, the ways to get to this vacation paradise are numerous. On arrival, travelers find a modern terminal with architecture inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's Arts and Crafts design, comfortable seating areas, and the Cherry Country Café located inside the security area.”

For the readers’ choice award, TVC is up against airports in destinations like Aspen, Jackson Hole, Hilton Head, Key West, Palm Springs, and Nantucket. The full list of nominees can be found here.

The poll will remain open for the next 27 days, after which USA Today will compile and publish a top 10 list based on the top vote-getters.Top of Form

“This nomination means so much to our entire TVC team,” said airport CEO Kevin Klein in a press release. “We are proud to have welcomed a record number of travelers through our terminal this past summer—and that momentum continues year-round. As Northern Michigan gains national recognition, we’re seeing visitors from every corner of the country choosing TVC as their preferred gateway to vacation.”

Appearances – and victories – on 10Best polls have become somewhat commonplace for the Traverse City area in recent years. Just last month, for instance, Suttons Bay’s Inn at Black Star Farms was voted the “Top Wine Country Hotel” in a 10Best poll; Old Mission Peninsula’s Chateau Chantal finished second in the same poll. Hop Lot Brewing Company, also in Suttons Bay, is a two-year reigning champ in the poll for best beer gardens.
