Cherryland Expands Solar Offerings

Feb. 14, 2017

Cherryland Electric Cooperative has launched a new community solar program. Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative, Cherryland’s power supplier, recently completed the SpartanSolar community array, a 1.2 megawatt utility scale solar array on M-55 across from its office in Cadillac. Cooperative members can purchase a panel subscription and receive bill credits for their share of the community solar array's output. A panel subscription costs either $600 upfront or $10 per month for five years. Once paid in full, participants will receive a $200 rebate on their electric bill.

The new program is the second community solar project in Cherryland’s history. “Cherryland built the state’s first community solar array in 2013 and it sold out quickly,” said Rachel Johnson, Cherryland’s member relations manager. “The success of that project told us right away that our members would support a similar project on a larger scale.”

The new array offers 4,352 panel subscriptions, nearly 20 times more than Cherryland’s first solar array. Click here for more information.
