By Beth Milligan | Feb. 19, 2020

Two 19-year-olds were arrested after assaulting a 17-year-old teenager outside of her Garfield Township home Monday morning.

According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office, the 19-year-old male suspect removed a silver handgun from his waistband during the assault and aimed it at the teen. Both the male and female suspects - a Long Lake Township couple - then beat the girl with their fists before fleeing the scene in a Ford Focus. A deputy located the vehicle near M-37 and US-31 in Blair Township Monday night and toook the suspects into custody without further incident. A handgun was located in the suspect’s vehicle, and was determined to be a .177 caliber, semi-automatic BB pistol.

The suspects were lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail. The male was arrested for charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm and a warrant for failure to appear on previous charges. The female suspect was arrested for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm.
