Northwest Michigan Housing Summit Set for Oct. 26–27

TRAVERSE CITY - The 12th annual Northwest Michigan Housing Summit hosted by Housing North is set for Oct. 26-27.
According to a statement from Housing North, This year’s summit is themed “Forward Together: Turning Vision into Action,” and will focus on moving housing ideas and strategies toward implementation. Over two days, participants will connect around emerging housing tools, policy developments, community planning, financing, development strategies, and practical solutions being implemented across Northwest Michigan and the state.
The summit will feature updates, presentations, panels and workshops highlighting housing solutions and tools available to communities throughout Northwest Michigan, including:
• State of the Region’s Housing, presented by Housing North, providing an overview of the current housing landscape and trends across Northwest Michigan.
• A session highlighting CEDAM’s guidance and tools for communities developing Housing Tax Increment Financing (TIF) policies.
• Community Growth Planning Utilizing the Zoning Atlas, exploring how zoning data and mapping can help communities identify opportunities and guide future housing development.
• An update from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) on the Statewide Housing Plan 2.0.
• A panel discussion featuring the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and MSHDA on programs and resources available to support housing development.
• A presentation from the Michigan Manufactured Housing and RV Association on CrossMod homes and their role in expanding attainable homeownership opportunities, including eligibility for traditional 30-year mortgage financing.
• A Day 2 general session focused on housing policy and advocacy, examining how state legislation intersects with local policy, ways communities can advocate effectively at both levels, and the Housing Readiness Bill Package and its implications for housing progress.
