Cyclist Injured In Weekend Grandview Parkway Crossing

A bicyclist was struck and injured while crossing Grandview Parkway in a marked crosswalk Sunday morning.

The 36-year-old Traverse City woman was taken to Munson Medical Center after she was struck by a car driven by an 82-year-old Traverse City man, says Traverse City Police Department Lt. Matt Richmond.

The driver was eastbound on Grandview in the right lane at 11:41am when a truck in front of him stopped at the crosswalk so that the woman could cross. The driver swerved around the truck and proceeded through the crosswalk, striking the bicyclist.

Richmond says the man was not cited for the crash, but a report will be sent to prosecutors for review.

The crosswalk markings that direct drivers to stop for pedestrians were introduced by the Michigan Department of Transportation last year.
