Benjamin Leask, the 22-year-old driver in a Peninsula Township crash that killed 17-year-old Wilder Seeburger on August 16, has been charged with operating while intoxicated causing death. The charge, announced by Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney Noelle Moeggenberg Tuesday, carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 15 years.

According to Moeggenberg's release, law enforcement responded to the crash on Center Road in Peninsula Township on the evening of August 16. A tan F250 driven by Leask was on its side in the middle of the roadway. "Law enforcement noticed the odor of intoxicants coming from the truck," according to the release.

A Honda CRV driven by Seeburger was facing south in the northbound lane. Seeburger was pronounced dead at the scene. "The point of impact was clearly in the northbound lane," according to the release. "Leask was transported to Munson Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries. There is evidence that Leask consumed alcohol prior to the crash. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."

Moeggenberg added that "the investigation is still ongoing, and additional information is not available at this time."
