Driver Escapes Injury After Falling Asleep, Crashing Truck

A 66-year-old Northport man escaped injury after falling asleep at the wheel and driving his pick-up truck off the road in Suttons Bay Township.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the single-vehicle accident Wednesday at 4:28pm on Macksey Road south of Hanson Road. Deputies found a 2010 Chevrolet pick-up truck that had driven off the road and into a tree. The man explained to deputies he had been traveling northbound on Macksey Road when he fell asleep and drove off the roadway. The driver was uninjured in the crash.
