Eleven Teens Issued MIPs At Underage Party

May 24, 2016

Eleven teens from five different cities were cited for being minors in possession of alcohol (MIPs) at an underage party in Leelanau County this weekend.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a noise complaint just after 11:30pm Friday in the 500 block of Narlock Road in Cleveland Township. Deputies could hear yelling and noises coming from the rear of the residence and made contact with the property owner, who gave them permission to investigate. Deputies found a group of teens ranging from 15 to 19 years old drinking on the property.

Eleven teens from Maple City, Cedar, Lake Ann, Empire and Traverse City were cited for MIPs and are required to appear in court at a later date. The juvenile was turned over to a parent, while the other parents were notified of the illegal activity as required by law. Deputies determined the property owner had no knowledge of the illegal activities occurring on the premises and was cooperative with law enforcement.
