First Annual Haig Open Hickory Golf Tournament Scheduled

The Northern Michigan Hickory Golf Association announce the First Annual Haig Open Hickory Golf Tournament, a celebration of golf’s golden era and the legendary Walter Hagen, who had a presence in Northern Michigan. The event will take place September 5–7, 2025, across three historic Northern Michigan courses, offering players and spectators alike a weekend steeped in camaraderie, competition, and vintage flair.

Golfers are encouraged to don period attire—plus-fours, ties, and classic caps—as they “Golf Like The Haig” with hickory-shafted clubs and a spirit reminiscent of the 1920s.

Schedule of Play & Festivities

Friday, September 5 – Interlochen Golf Club

Practice Round at Interlochen Golf Club (optional)
Dinner at Sleder’s Family Tavern (a favorite watering hole for The Haig)

Saturday, September 6 – Interlochen Golf Club

7:00 – 8:15 am – Check-In & Warm-Up
8:30 am – Ceremonial Champagne Toast
8:45 am – Group Photograph
9:00 am – 1:30 pm – Tournament Play: Golf Like The Haig
1:30 – 3:00 pm – Luncheon & Trophy Presentation
5:00 pm – Optional Dinner at Oaky’s Tavern, 9205 US-31 South, Grawn.

Sunday, September 7 – Elk Rapids Golf Club (Optional)

9 or 18 holes at Elk Rapids Golf Club
