All Too Clear: Beneath the Surface of the Great Lakes - a documentary that uses cutting-edge underwater drones to capture how invasive quagga mussels are reshaping the Great Lakes - will have its Traverse City premiere with a free screening Monday, June 9 at 7:30pm at the City Opera House.
Directed by husband-and-wife team Zach Melnick and Yvonne Drebert - who spent more than 150 days filming underwater, including in Grand Traverse Bay - All Too Clear blends scientific discovery with natural history adventure, showcasing "rarely seen aquatic environments and freshwater species in stunning detail," according to a film release. The Traverse City screening is free and open to the public as part of the International Conference on Fish Telemetry, though tickets are required to be reserved at CityOperaHouse.org.
Following the 90-minute screening, attendees are invited to a Q&A with the filmmakers and featured scientist Jason Smith, along with an opportunity to view the advanced underwater robots used in production.
Since its world premiere in 2024, All Too Clear has been touring the Great Lakes region, engaging directly with the communities most impacted by the dramatic changes unfolding in the lakes. The film earned the Best Feature Film award at the Fresh Coast Film FesAval in Marquette and the Sanctuary Selections Award at the Thunder Bay Internatioonal Film Festival in Alpena.
