By Beth Milligan | Nov. 25, 2025

A 51-year-old man who is accused of attempting to kidnap a woman from the Traverse City Meijer gas station Sunday has been identified as Scott Gensler of Interlochen. Gensler was arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court on one felony count of kidnapping and given a $500,000 cash surety bond.

Authorities were called to the Meijer gas station at 8:30am Sunday morning in response to the attempted abduction. The victim did not know Gensler, who was thwarted by bystanders and fled the scene. Authorities began canvassing the area and later found Gensler near Chums Corner, conducted a traffic stop, and arrested him.

Gensler has no prior listed criminal record. He is next scheduled for a probable cause conference on December 9 at 2pm and a preliminary examination December 16 at 11am in 86th District Court.
