By Beth Milligan | Oct. 8, 2025

A 71-year-old Green Lake Township man was arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material after he took his electronic device to a local repair shop and employees discovered the material.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, employees from a Garfield Township business called authorities Tuesday morning and reported the material found on the man's electronic device as they began repairing it. Detectives with specialized training in forensic computer crimes came to the business and contacted the man. He was interviewed and then immediately arrested and transported to Grand Traverse County Jail on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material, a four-year felony, and using a computer to commit a crime, a seven-year felony.

Detectives later prepared and executed a search warrant on the Green Lake Township residence to gather further evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.
