GT County Hires New IT Director

June 1, 2017

Grand Traverse County has hired a new director of information technology, filling a position that's been vacant since last July.

County Administrator Tom Menzel announced Thursday that Ming Mays will start her new role effective July 3. Mays has been director of IT for Manton Consolidated Schools since 2008 and has a Bachelor of Science in Network Engineering (Microsoft & Cisco) from Davenport University. She holds certificates including Google Administrator, Google Certification Academy, Crystal Reports and Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure. Before working for Manton Consolidated Schools, Mays was an information technology technician for three years at ASR Health Benefit in Grand Rapids and served as an IT mentor at the nonprofit Heartside Ministry in Grand Rapids.

Mays and her family "currently reside in the Cadillac area and are looking forward to this move to the Traverse City area," Menzel wrote in a memo to county commissioners. "I am very pleased she has decided to join Grand Traverse County and add her experience and expertise to our county IT department."

Mays fills the position vacated by former County IT Director Don Sheehan, who resigned last July.
