Healthcare Worker Arrested for Embezzlement

By Beth Milligan | Feb. 25, 2026

Dawn Anderson, a 58-year-old in-home healthcare worker from Bear Lake, has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing more than $250,000 from an elderly woman she was providing care for in Traverse City.

According to the Michigan State Police, authorities began investigating Anderson for alleged embezzlement in December 2024. The victim’s family had contacted law enforcement after their bank alerted them of unusual account activity. "It is alleged that over a span of six years, Anderson retained and used the victim's credit cards, wrote personal checks, and accessed the victims’ bank accounts to steal more than $250,000," according to MSP.

Following a formal review, the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for Anderson's arrest. She was arraigned on February 20 in 86th District Court on charges including embezzlement ($100,000 or more), using computers to commit a crime, and financial transaction device (possession). She was given a $25,000 bond. Her next court appearance is March 6 at 2pm.
