Homeless Man Found Dead Downtown

Sept. 1, 2014

The body of a 63-year-old homeless Traverse City man was discovered under the North Union Street bridge Friday. Traverse City police and firefighters were dispatched to the bridge to check on the man, who was reported to be unresponsive. When personnel arrived, he was found deceased. There were no signs of foul play, and the man appeared to have died of natural causes. The victim's body will be taken to Spectrum Hospital, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The man is known to local officers as an individual who has been homeless for several years. The man's caretaker has been notified of his passing; however, authorities are withholding his name until his relatives have been contacted.
