Kingsley Middle School Student Found With Gun

Sept. 17, 2014

Authorities are investigating an incident at Kingsley Middle School Monday in which a fifth-grade student was found in possession of a loaded 25 caliber pistol in his waistband. A sheriff's deputy assigned as a school liaison officer was on-site at the school and alerted by a teacher that another student had reported the boy might be in possession of a firearm. The officer and school principal secluded the fifth-grader and confirmed the pistol was on him. The firearm was recovered by the deputy, and no other weapons were found. Investigators have not yet determined whether the gun was functionally operational. The student told authorities he took the weapon from his grandfather’s house last Friday, and offered a few different explanations for why he brought it to school. Authorities are continuing to look into the student's story, and the incident remains under investigation.
