Leelanau "Bearing the Brunt" of Regional Tourism?

June 4, 2024

Does Leelanau County need more of a voice in local tourism efforts? How about more money to support it?

Despite the county being a huge draw for people from across the country and around the world, some Leelanau officials believe the county is unfairly “bearing the brunt” of regional tourism without enough say in efforts to promote the region, or without enough of the profits.

It’s one of many issue examined in depth in the June edition of the Traverse City Business News, The Ticker’s sister publication.

"(There's a) strain that comes from being a day destination and having to provide parking, trash removal, public restrooms, public safety and so forth for day trippers who are attracted to the area by all of the hype," Leland Township Supervisor Susan Och tells TCBN.

The June issue also contains a thorough look at foreign workers and what they mean to our local economy.

Other topics include:

·        An examination of four proposals that could significantly impact TC’s tourism economy

·        A look at the new Grand Traverse Stake Bank, which is scheduled to open soon

·        Discussions with local banks about cybersecurity threats

·        A variety of stories about the latest in networking trends and events

·        Several local expert columnists
