Leelanau Welfare Check Leads To Assault Arrest

July 22, 2016

Leelanau County Sherrif deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of S. West Bay Shore Drive on Tuesday for a welfare check on a local resident. The caller, a 60-year-old Traverse City man, said he was concerned about his female acquaintance.

After arriving and speaking with the woman, deputies determined that there had been a physical altercation the night before between the woman and the man who made the original call. Deputies determined that the woman was the victim in the altercation but was not injured. Deputies then contacted and interviewed the man and subsequently arrested him for Domestic Assault; he is lodged in the Leelanau County Jail.
