Library Receives $90k Gift

The Traverse Area District Library (TADL) has received a $90,000 donation from longtime Traverse City residents and library patrons, George and Helen Getty.

The library was notified earlier this month that the Gettys designated TADL as a beneficiary of their trust estate in 1998. George Getty, a photographer, graphic artist and co-owner of the former Photocraft Studios on State Street, passed away in 2007. Helen Getty passed away in February.

"We are so thankful for this generous gift and also truly flattered that the Getty family thought so highly of TADL that they extended their support with this sort of legacy contribution," says Tom Kachadurian, president of the TADL board of trustees.

Library management staff are working to develop potential projects to make best use of the bequest.
