Munson Puts Visitor Restrictions Into Effect

Dec. 19, 2014

Influenza, which local health officials say "has hit the area hard recently," has forced Munson Medical Center to restrict its visitation policy. During this flu season, the hospital will observe the following policies:

– Visitors must be 18 or older
– No children unless they are seeking treatment or have a procedure scheduled
– Those with any flu-like symptoms are asked to not visit the hospital
– No more than two family members at one time may visit a patient

"We are witnessing an increase in the number of people at the hospital and in the region who have flu-related symptoms," says Karen Speirs, D.O., an infectious disease physician at Munson.

Flu symptoms include a fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting.
